I have been watching many different types of Art programs on TV, and I find a lot of inspiration from their art. Some of which I would love to try if I had my own art studio! I also love being able to see other places, and as I am not able to travel to. I learn a bit about them on TV.

One program I watched today, was BBC Travel Show, were they were reporting on an inspirational project by:
Bassem Zawdeh - Tripoli, Lebanon. I thought I would share this with you.

The purpose of his project is to document and digitally record historic building patterns for future generations. Creating a digital record of the historic city buildings in Tripoli. Where he grew up, and lived all his life. Many of the buildings neglected, abused and in some parts, destroyed over the years.

The historic building created and designed many centuries ago, with beautiful intricate patterns and designs, built into the fabric of the building.

Bassem takes his photos from different angles to record them for his project.
He has been taking photographs and recreating the artwork to create digital records. The artwork is still valuable and as important as it is the people’s legacy. It is more important than ever, as there is a huge risk of losing them. Can you imagine all the work that goes into creating these artworks; someone has to design it, another person will sculpt it, and carve it into the stone, then fixed to the face of the building.

Another example is of a building that is over 700 years old and just covered in graffiti, why did they have just add it on the plain part of the building rather than over the carvings!

The great designs of the city are fading away, as there is no one looking after them. No one is preserving them for future generations. If anything happens and buildings are destroyed the city would be losing the amazing artwork.

He has digitised over a hundred pieces of artwork over the city. He feels he is now part of that history, and wishes he could feel more positive by saving and resurrecting these beautiful historic designs from the city.

With people migrating and travelling all over the world, he hopes that one day Tripoli will regain it’s beautiful history and people will respect the art and love the city as he sees it. It is sad to see these beautiful buildings destroyed, and people do not appreciate beauty and history of the home cities and towns where they have grown up.

I agree, one of my relatives, takes photos of old buildings with a lot of character, and is really sad when they are knocking down these historic buildings.
