These are just some of the acronyms, abbreviations, and words that are rarely used outside of the sketching world. Well, some are commonly used, but just in case you don't know them, I am going to say them again!

  • ACEO - Art Cards Editions & Originals. This is usually for those that are being sold.
  • Addy - Address
  • AF - Acid Free. Non-acidic based paper. Prevents (or slows) the paper from yellowing or degrading over time.
  • Archival - Paper that is particularly durable and acid-free. Best for items meant to be kept a LONG time.
  • Art Card - Any 2.5 x 3.5 inch card. Can be traditional or collage.
  • Art Deco - During the 1920s and 30s, artists used decorative motifs derived from French, African, Aztec, Chinese, and Egyptian cultures.
  • Art Nouveau - A style which evolved during the 1890s which used asymmetrical decorative elements derived from objects found in nature.
  • ATC - Artist Trading Card. Usually refers to those not being sold, but rather traded.
  • Blanks - Blank paper that is the size of a trading card. Used for creating new cards.
  • C/O - Care Of. Usually meant for addressing things to someone not living at a specific address.
  • Collage - The technique of combining images or materials to create a new item.
  • Conversation - Private messages you receive while on the forums.
  • Diptych - Two cards that go together, usually one image side by side.
  • Ephemera - miscellaneous items commonly used in collage work.
  • Forum - Area of the forums with a specific theme. For example, Chit Chat is a forum.
  • Forums - This site is considered a cluster of forums. It is usually shortened to the singular form, however.
  • Message - A reply to a thread in a forum.
  • Mixed Media - Several mediums used on one artwork. EG: watercolor and pencils.
  • O/S - Over Seas, International
  • PIF - Pay it forward. Usually an act of kindness that has a clear direction.
  • PM - Private message.
  • RAK - Random act of kindness. These acts NEVER require compensation or acknowledgement.
  • Returns - The cards you get in return for a swap or trade.
  • SAE - Self Addressed Envelope
  • SASE - Self Addressed Stamped Envelope
  • Sketch Card - 2.5 x 3.5 inch art drawing. These are only traditional medias, no collage.
  • Sleeves - Plastic sleeve used to hold ATC.
  • Thread - A topic started in a forum.
  • Triptych - Two cards that go together, usually one image side by side.
  • WIP - Work In Progress
  • Zentangle - black lines form of doodling.
